7/4/2023 0 Comments Fender musicmaster![]() Officially introduced in 1956, The Musicmaster was re-designed to match the newly introduced Mustang in 1964, and dubbed 'Musicmaster II' for the remainder of the 1960s. With a single pickup and no vibrato system, it was a basic but functional instrument. Today, vintage Musicmaster basses are among the least collectible of Fender's vintage bass guitars, and are thus much more affordable than many comparable vintage Fender models. The Fender Musicmaster was the first of their 3/4 scale guitars. They were reissued briefly by Squier in 1997 however, it was discontinued after only a year of production, and replaced with the Squier Bronco Bass, but retaining the six-pole pickup. The Musicmaster Bass was discontinued along with all of Fender's budget-priced models in 1981, with the introduction of the Squier brand. Earlier models are distinguishable by their small headstock logo, lack of a serial number on the headstock, and small, triangular tuning keys later models feature a much larger headstock logo, with a serial number silkscreened next to the "Fender" logo, and Mustang-style tuning keys. Later, this was expanded to include many of the finishes present on other Fender guitars. ![]() Some very early issues were daphne blue with pearl pickguards. ![]() The Musicmaster Bass was introduced in 1971, and originally came in either black, red or white finish. Many players modified the bodies of their Musicmaster basses to accommodate Precision-style double pickups or enhanced electronics. The bodies were leftover Fender Mustang Bassbodies, while the pickups were six-pole guitar pickups, rather than four-pole bass pickups. Like many of Fender's other budget-priced guitars, the Musicmaster Bass used many surplus parts from other Fender models. All of the Musicmaster's electronics are mounted onto a single piece of plastic. It features a very short 30 in (762 mm) scale, the shortest of any bass produced by Fender. The ES stamp was used on some guitars in 1966 and generally denoted some kind of special order whether it be a custom color, neck width, celebrity order, etc.The Fender Musicmaster Bass is a model of electric bass guitar, produced by Fender between 19.Īs with its six-string counterpart, which was a stripped-down version of the Fender Mustang, the Musicmaster Bass is a simpler version of the Mustang Bass. The neck pocket bears the stamp "ES" which stands for "Entered Special". All parts are original to the guitar and in good working condition. With a neck heel date of June '66 and a pickup date of 1-13-1967, we can easily date this guitar to early 1967. This early 1967 Fender Musicmaster II has just arrived from the son of the original owner and has survived in excellent original condition. ![]() Both models were redesigned in 1964 and received a 24" scale neck (same as the Jaguar) and popular offset waist body. ![]() While the Musicmaster and Duo-Sonic received fewer appointments than the professional grade guitars, they were made to the same high quality standards.
