The Multiverse Launcher allows you to more easily customise your Populous experience with options that wouldn't otherwise be possible. It's worth 6 dollars as there isn't anything else like it out there really, not even the other populous games. I dunno, maybe it was a set of gimmicks but it was a lot of fun as a kid. Concussive blasts will cause the buildings to bow under the pressure, and earthquakes, tornados, and really forceful stuff will tear it apart in pieces. Lighting one on fire will cause it to burn in layers, a small fire might not even burn up the roof, but once a building really catches on fire proper it will burn right down to remnants of a scorched frame. The buildings are all physical objects, and are damaged accordingly. There aren't a ton of units, but the units that are there are all unique(priests can quell large groups, who will sit down and listen intently, converting slowly to your faith, spies can disguise themselves as the enemy and then light buildings on fire, going through a delightful animation where they pull out a tinderbox and slowly start a fire, the longer they have to work the bigger the fire that's started). All of the sprites are very well animated for the day and the units fight in a pretty elaborate manner, striking, pushing, and stabbing each other as opposed to just wacking one another until they are dead. You then send those villagers to different huts(temple, warrior's lodge, etc) and they are then trained into other units. You produce new units by sending villagers into houses where they reproduce, the longer they live in the house the bigger the house gets, the faster they reproduce. I don't know how outstanding it was in the gameplay department, but there are a lot of unique things going on in it. ![]()
